]]> http://www.friendlyhousema.org/2012/02/29/gym-swim-early-bird-registration-begins/feed/ 1 Day with an Ambassador to the U.S.A http://www.friendlyhousema.org/2012/02/27/day-with-an-ambassador-to-the-u-s-a/ http://www.friendlyhousema.org/2012/02/27/day-with-an-ambassador-to-the-u-s-a/#comments Mon, 27 Feb 2012 19:38:33 +0000 admin http://www.friendlyhousema.org/?p=821 Over the years, Friendly House has made special effort to support our newly arriving immigrant populations.  At present, the Agency is one of the few Social Service Organizations that employs an Albanian Outreach Community Worker.  On February 21, 2012, we were proud to have the opportunity to meet and spend a good part of the day with Mr. Gilbert Galanxhi, the Ambassador of Albania to the United State and with a number of representatives from the Albanian community, including Mr. Gregory Steffon, a member of our Board of Directors.  At that time we were able to elaborate upon our current and past work with our Albanian brothers and sisters who live in the Worcester and Central Massachusetts area.  Additionally, we informed the Ambassador of our Mission, the Settlement House model, our International Organization’s projects in Albania and future opportunities to better work with our Community as a whole.  The following are photographs taken with the Ambassador.

As you may or may not know on March 11th the Friendly House joined local Worcester businesses and organizations  for a fun filled day celebrating St Patrick's day.

2012 15th ANNUAL $1 MILLION GIVEAWAY
TO FIGHT HUNGER

For the 15th consecutive year the Feinstein Foundation will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide using it to help them raise funds this March and April.   The Friendly House, for the 7th consecutive year, will be participating in this Giveaway to help raise money to fight hunger in our local community.

ABOUT THE GIVEAWAY:

The Foundation requires that every agency undertaking this challenge only use donations or pledges received from March 1st, 2012 to April 30th, 2012 to calculate how much of the $1 Million they are eligible to receive to help supply food to the local community.  The Friendly House will use all donations and pledges received to help those in need living in the Worcester area.

PLEASE DONATE:

The Friendly House is asking that you donate money, food or make a pledge to help by the April 30th deadline, so that we may continue to help the hungry in our community.  All proceeds from this giveaway go to providing, purchasing and distributing food.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION:

Feinstein's past annual $1 Million challenge to fight hunger have raised over $1.25 Billion for over 2000 agencies and houses of worship nationwide helping the needy.  The Foundation was founded in 1991 by Alan Shawn Feinstein, the Feinstein Foundation is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood.  We at the Friendly House are proud to be associated with this foundation and its cause.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED AND HELP:

If you would like to participate there are 3 ways in which you can help us feed the hungry.

  1. Send Cash or Checks to: "The Friendly House" c/o Susan Daly,  36 Wall Street, Worcester, MA 01604 (Please ensure that you label the memo field of the Check "Feinstein Foundation")
  2. Food Donation:  All food donations made to the Friendly House from March 1st to April 30th will count towards this challenge. ($1/item or pound)
  3. Pledges:  All amounts pledged by donors during this time for the challenge will count towards this challenge.

On Saturday April 21st, 2012 the Friendly House will be participating in the 23rd Annual REC Earth Day cleanups.  The Friendly House is in need of volunteers to help in various locations.  Please contact our site coordinator Susan Daly at 508-755-4362 or sdaly@friendlyhousema.org for more details on the date.  Registration starts March 1st and ends April 6th.

The Friendly House also will need trash bags, gloves, rakes and any other tools to help with the clean up.  We appreciate your continued support as we try to improve our neighborhood.

  • Friendly House Golf Tournament - April 29th at 12:30pm

  •    27th Annual CMHA "Walk For The Homeless" - May 20th

Join Friendly House in it’s support of Central MA Housing Alliance’s 27th Annual Walk for the Homeless, benefiting Friendly House, Donations Cleaning House, Hope for Housing, Interfaith Hospitality Network and Youth Against Homelessness.  The 4.2 mile Walk will take place on Sunday, May 20th at 2pm, registration at 1pm, at Institute Park.  Rain or Shine!
